Customers and partners increasingly expect more responsible material decisions, but broad environmental language can create risk when it is not supported by evidence.

Start with the product system

Consider material volume, construction, expected life, repairability, packaging and end-of-life pathways together. A change in one component can affect durability, safety, manufacturing and transport.

Use precise language

State what is known: the material, verified recycled content, certification, packaging reduction or documented process improvement. Avoid absolute terms such as green or eco-friendly unless the claim is properly defined and supported in the target market.

Build verification into development

Supplier documentation, testing and market-specific claim review should be part of the development plan. Responsible innovation is strongest when it improves the product experience while remaining technically and commercially credible.
